Baby Baby Baby!

So, we went for a doctor visit today, and we actually saw the baby! We saw a frantic little heartbeat form the ultra-sound. After a second or two, we got to see the baby kicking! It amazes me that the baby is only 3 cm, but we could still see it. Thank you science. In other news, the Curtains record release is only a few weeks away.

The News It Out All Over Town...

So, life has taken a great little detour lately. Everyone is slowly finding out about the big news. As of Saturday, Melissa and I now know that we are going to be parents! Yay! We are both giddy. We are also worried about EVERYTHING right now. We keep reminding ourselves that we are not the first people to go through this. Anywho, the due date should be sometime in October. Now, all I have to do is convince Melissa that we should name the baby Brian Wilson. Boy or girl, that name sounds awesome. Hmm... baby... woooohooo! So, life is going to be very busy from now on ;)

Holy Heck, it's done!

So, I apologize to all the people in my life who have been ignored as of late. The good news is that the album is done! We finished mixing it in a marathon 12 hour frenzy on Saturday. All that is left is mastering and duplication. We are having Ed Brooks (Minus 5, Pearl Jam, Bill Frizell, and Julianna Hatfield for example) master the album. We are playing a show at the end of January, and we will hopefully have it ready for sale by then. In other news, Matt and I are finalyl starting to rehearse with Carrie Akre for her new album. We have our first gig live on KEXP on February 3rd. How is that for a first gig? Gee, it would have been nice to have played at least one show together before then! Oh well, the life of a rock-star is so hard...

Anywhen, have a great holiday and stay safe. Oh, mayhap something is going on for my 30th birthday (on the 28th), so call Melissa to find out any details. Okay, out for now.

New Beatles album out soon!

So, the new Beatles album is out on the 21st. I will be gladly snagging my copy as soon as I open the box on the 20th. I have listened to the 4 tracks that have been floating around the net , and I am so very excited about this. It is like mashups done by people who actually are musicians. I hate how mashup makers forsake things like pitch matching and harmonic stability in favor of beat matching. Anywho, the advance reviews are all stellar for this one. I cannot wait... waiting... err... can it be Monday now?

Ironman update

Hey all,
My sister (Elizabeth Fedofsky) just completed her first Ironman on Saturday. I cannot express how proud of her I am. She finished 12th in her division(!), which completely blows me away. I tracked her online for the race, and was really struck by the fact that she swam 2.5 miles, biked 112, and then ran a 26 mile marathon to finish. Ummm... I watched a movie, ate Indian food, and played some video games yesterday. Yeah, motivation and training helped me out all the way! I am glad that she made it out of that mess alive...

Blah diddy blah blah

Well, Scott came and went. It was great to catch up with my New York brother! It was also fun to hang out with Shawn again. Man, why don't we hang out more often? I dunno... Anywho, work keeps me really busy these days. I am getting to listen to every record released in the last few months, and life is good. I still have not purchased any new music, but at least I am getting more exposure. I am reading the new Brian wilson biography, and it is about as ggod as any rock-bio can be. Swell! Curtains will be jumping up to play at Gallery 1412 this Thursday, and I get to play a real grand piano this time.

Show-diddy-wah!

The show went well. The first band was sooooooooo friggin' loud! Melissa's Mom was in attendance, and she had to put kleenex in her ears for the first band. Melissa told her that we did not sound anything like them. It was fun to be back on stage after our summery hiatus. Gadzooks... yeah!

Updates...

In a stroke of random chance, I am now gainfully employed at Easy Street Records here in West Seattle. Come visit some time! On a side-note, Curtains will take the Sunset stage at 10 PM tomorrow night. We are opening for The Spores... umm... they employ puppets... uh... yeah. Anywho, they are from LA and are bringing puppets. Does that sound fun? Yep! We are also playing a show on the 21st at Gallery 1412. The Seattle Times put a blurb about us in the paper yesterday. Swell! The gallery show will be a bit longer than our usual set, and we are busting out some new material. If anyone saw the last show, we snuck in "Red Red Rose". We will be playing that tomorrow, and for the 21st, we are also adding "More Than Ordinary", "Small Change", "The Snails" (yeah, it's been a while), probably some covers (we are learning "Heading For The Light" by the Wilburys), and whatever else we bust out at rehearsals between now and then. We are actually back to rehearsing twice a week. FANTASTIC, I say! It is strange to think that our repertoire is damn huge these days. Making a setlist is complicated:

-originals-
"Sidewinder"
"Bucket Seat"
"Unfamiliar"
"The Ballad of Gavril Ivolgin"
"Red Red Rose"
"The Snails"
"Heaven's Waiting"
"Each & Everyone"
"Dreams & Drunkenness"
"The Pugilist"
"Postcard"
"Deleted Scenes"
"When My Ride Comes Along"
"Comeback Kid"
"Small Change"
"The Big One"
"More Than Ordinary"
"Left Hand"

-this shit has been worked on but not finished-
"Ultraviolet Rays"
"Jellyfish On Dry Ground"
"Mezzopiano"
"Time"
"Chain-Linked Fence"
"Caspar & Evelyn"
"Chasing Days"

-covers-
"Without You"
"Father & Son"
"Heading For The Light"
"Daydream Believer"
"Mellow Yellow"

Damn, that is a lot of ground to cover...

Funny aside, we played "Crocodile Rock" (for Steve Irwin) to start our rehearsal yesterday.

Music stuff

CFY finally got back to business tonight and it was a blast. We have a show coming up at ye olde Sunset on the 6th. Please come on down and enjoy some silly pop. Speaking of silly pop, work is well underway on my next album. I have posted 3 new songs on myspace from this batch. This record is going to be over-the-top-pop. I have been in an up mood for some time now (well, you can all figure out why), so I am feeling the urge to let the happy stuff loose. Damn, that sounded somewhat gross. In other news, I have been on a huge comic bender lately. I read all of Y The Last Man again. Awesome. I also dipped into Ex Machina again. Awesome x2. Nate turned me on to Fell by Warren Ellis. Although it is stalled at issue 5, it is really fantastic. When an author explains his work as "Spectorish Wall of Sound", one must at least give the man props. Anywho, head on over to myspace and check out the new tunes... and give me feedback... please.

P.S. I cannot wait until Scott comes to Seattle.

Update...

Hey all, been a while. Life rolls on here in West Seattle. I recently played a solo show at the Jewelbox Theater and it was swell. Thank you to all who attended. Curtains has finished the record and it is being mixed right now. My Mother came to visit and we had a blast. Other than that, life is going great. Yeah, this all sounds very boring, but everything seems so good and normal these days. Who wants to hear about happy stuff? Aren't blogs for major problems and meltdowns? Back to it...

Wheee

So, Nick came over on Thursday night and we finally watched The Muppet Movie. Matt and Mike flaked out...sigh... but they are traveling this week, so maybe they needed some rest before they left. Yeah, that's it. Anywhy, Melissa came over in the middle of the movie and promptly passed out on the couch after asking (twice in ten minutes) how far we were into the movie. We woke up the next day and she was worried that Nick would think that she was boring for not being the life of the party. Uh, two guys watching The Muppet Movie on a Thursday night does not constitute a party! Still, I have suggested that a lamp shade and a bow tie will be provided for her next time. Ladeda, the day went on, and then she started a character for Oblivion and sat on the couch playing it for an hour or so. Umm... uh... very attractive girl in my apartment... playing Oblivion... and I get to make out with her?! Shucks, somebody pinch me.

A couple of notes

Curtains will be playing Nectar (in Fremont) at 8 PM. The show is free (FREE!) and we will be playing our set out of a hat. Mmmm, random music. Oh, we will be covering a song that Harry Nilsson made famous. Come along! We also are the featured pick in The Stranger this week. Read up and come on out...

Had a blast...

Last night, Jana had her pre-birthday party over at Mission. Much fun was had. I just want to thank all of you who welcomed my gal into the mix with open arms. We both had a real swell time...

Holy cow

I have been listening to so much early Rod Stewart these past few days. It reminded me of Pop Conference a few years back. I was chatting with this uber-music geek (yeah, worse than Dan and I COMBINED) about Rod's ealry solo stuff on Mercury. He was trying to argue that Blondes Have More Fun was just as good as Gasoline Alley. It was at that point that I had to walk away and cry. I don't care what you feel about how much he sold out or how bad his later career was, Rod's early stuff is amazing. He is easily my most favorite Dylan interpreter. His versions of Mama You Been On My Mind and Tomorrow Is A Long Time are vastly superior to the Dylan originals. Okay, now it's your turn to walk away and cry...

Hello, I am raw right now...

To all concerned, Pete has been having an emotionally draining week. Every 30 minutes, things swing from Christmas to a funeral. Then, they flip back. Can someone remind me to eat and sleep? Why do we have to be the opposable thumb monkeys? Please send cards, flowers, or donations c/o the Pete Fund of Greater Seattle. Oh, can you make gasoline cheaper too? Cheers....

Tom Petty slays me...

At this very moment, Tom Petty is getting things done at my house. He is the last great American Rock Star. Yep, all caps for that. I was on a road trip from Chicago to New York with my sister and our repective partners at the time. We were cruising through Ohio when I had to stop at a Walmart that I saw because I forgot to bring Full Moon Fever. Now that's commitment to the Petty!

Thank you, Nick

Nick is a Godsend. That is all. Thank you so much for a great day!

All is right with the world again to-day

As the sun shines down on West Seattle, I am doing fine. If any of you hit myspace recently, you may have noticed a slight change in my profile. Everything is swell, I just had to deal with some baggage... yeah, that's it. No one is to remind me of the fact that my Father is not here, okay? Also, no one recommend any books, films, magazine-ads, TV programs, or billboards dealing with father/son relationships. Got it? Sweet. I'm glad we had this chat. Run along... Mmmmm, issues.

One of those days

Have you ever had one of those days where you wake up and the word "Pro-Bono" is written on your wrist in Sharpie? Gee, I sure have. Ah, that wild and crazy Fremont! Anywhen, the show was a good time. Thanks to all who attended. Then next shindig will be at Nectar on the 20th of May.

Favorite quotes of last night:

"All the shirtless men and push ups! I would love the army." - Mikey

"Dave now has the title of lovely." -Matt

"We are having technical-technicolor difficulties... now we are the drug band again." -Mikey (in reference to his problems with the True Bugs equipment.)

"...so this one's pro-bono." (me) "I'm pro-skater"(Matt)"I'm pro-vision"(Mikey)as we raised our sleeves to display our Sharpie tattoos.

The night was also filled with usual random life stuff. One of the highlights was seeing Mike Gervais(Sr.) lighting a straw on fire at his table. Said straw was attached to a G.I. Joe figure. Said G.I. Joe figure had quite an evening.

Tada!

A subtle reminder....

... Curtains will take the stage tonight at 7 PM at the High Dive in Fremont. If you plan on attending, please stay to see The True Bugs headlining. Mikey said that they were going to dedicate a song to me. In other news, Matt and Angela are now official West Seattleites. Hooray for that. In other than other news, Mikey bought me a book tonight. He has suggested a fire on the beach with a blanket and all. Maybe Donna should come back from Germany so that I do not have to be his stand-in girlfriend. Nah, I really enjoy our time together. Gotta love that guy...

Did you all enjoy the rain today? It was quite squall-ish for a bit there. How's about you all dig out my last record and listen to "She Married The Earth" to celebrate the day that has passed. Okay, enough shameless self-promotion. Ach, I have never been pusillanimous in that regard.
